Brad Cherson - Pharmacist

Brad Cherson - Pharmacist, RPh

Pharmacy is in my blood having worked with my family in an independent pharmacy in Greensboro, NC, Fordham Drug Company, originally built in 1898. Starting as a "soda jerk" mixing and brewing various types of sodas, ice cream shakes, and root beer castor oil mixtures. Wooden floors & cabinets, black and white hexagonal floors, and life stories were the treasures I was exposed to while learning the pharmacy business.

I eventually graduated to the back of the pharmacy where I learned the fine art of pharmacy care from my Father. In those days, pharmacy was non-computerized and we knew each customer and their whole family. A lesson in pharmacy and pharmacy care was an essential aspect of my desire to attend pharmacy school.

Graduating Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, S.C. in 1980, I moved to Rochester, NY in order to pursue photography at The Rochester Institute of Technology. In Rochester, I attended RIT while finishing my extern hours at Rite Aid. Originally obtaining my license in New York state, where I am currently registered, I eventually discovered pharmacy to be much more rewarding than photography. I still maintain a strong interest in photography, both in collecting and pursing my own body of work.

While in Rochester, I left Rite Aid to work for Pennwalt Pharmaceuticals in New Product Development, where I worked on several products including Tussionex, Delsym, Penntuss, Corsym, and other research oriented projects based on the patented technology of Pennwalt.

The South never left my blood, and my wife and I moved to Atlanta to open a Pharmacy in Decatur, Ga, which I owned for ten years. I sold the business in 1992 in order to pursue my interests in photography.

For several years I worked as a commercial photographer and account executive with two very exceptional photographers and digital imaging studios. While photography proved to be enjoyable, pharmacy called me back. For ten years I managed a relief pharmacy agency where I worked in a multitude of pharmacy practice situations.

I bought into Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy having learned of the retirement of Mal Wilkinson, a respected and well known pharmacist in the Atlanta community. Continuing my passion for compounding and the desire to solve problems for patients, this provided a unique opportunity to get back into pharmacy ownership with a focus on meeting the needs of this niche market

My family and I currently live in Norcross, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta. Nancy, my wife of twenty-nine years, is a Pediatric Physicians Assistant and enjoys her 29 years in her career. I have a daughter, Marissa, who works in the public relations industry and a son, Jeremy, a Junior at American University in Washington, DC. Two border collies, Max and Maggie, round out our family and provide great companions for us.
